Habitat for Humanity Portland Metro East’s Executive Build

Habitat for Humanity Portland Metro East's executive build

In the spirit of giving and Thanksgiving I want to talk about a really great organization I have been working with over the last year. I have been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Portland Metro East photographing their builds, wall-raising ceremonies and families. Yes, this is a bit of an advertisement however I really believe what they do is important for the community.

Habitat Portland Metro East provides opportunities for local families, who otherwise would not be able, to become howe-owners. Habitat offers to qualified families a home with a 0% interest mortgage with 1% down and 500 hours of sweat equity. The new home-owners often find themselves building their own homes and helping to build their neighbors houses.

For the Executive Build, Habitat Portland Metro East gathered as many executives from local business and made them get their hands dirty. It was a great turn out and everyone really put in a lot of effort.

I encourage anyone that is interested in volunteering or learning how to build to find a local chapter of this organization. The houses and apartments are built from the ground up with volunteer support. Volunteers learn everything from proper use of power tools to raising walls on a house. Hopefully I will meet some of you on site!
